Draft for Linny's review, not a campaign position
This section describes the issue and the facts. It is a working draft for Linny's review. It does not state a campaign position.
The problem
Farmers and small-business owners deal with prices, weather, regulation, and paperwork, and federal rules can be hard to follow.
Why it matters in Arkansas
- Nonemployer establishments (businesses with no paid employees), 2024: 4,358 in Pope County; 250,682 in Arkansas. (source)
What still needs confirmation
Rules that affect farms and small businesses should be written and explained so a busy owner can understand them.
[TO BE PROVIDED BY LINNY: any position on farm bill programs, trade, regulation, or small-business policy]
What Congress can realistically do
- Congress writes the farm bill and funds USDA and Small Business Administration programs.
- Agencies write detailed regulations under the laws Congress passes; Congress can oversee and change them.
Costs & trade-offs
- Support programs help some producers and businesses and cost taxpayers money; regulations protect people but carry compliance costs.
How you can participate
- Tell me what you're seeing where you live through the contact form (pick "Community concern").
- Push back. If something here is wrong or one-sided, send the evidence and I'll look at it.
- Watch your own representatives: votes and bill text are public on Congress.gov.
